New Year, New Endeavors

Hello All,

It has been a while since we posted. Brooke has been busy with school at New World School of the Arts doing everything from photography to senior projects and me with homeschooling my daughter, corralling my son, being the great wife that I am and starting a side project making furniture and home goods.

We had a mention on the Offbeat Bride! That was fantastic. BTW, that special promotion is still running until January 30, so if you, anyone you know, or you want to give a gift to that special couple you still may do so.

Brooke and I cater mainly to clients that hire us to photograph their weddings. We prefer to work with clients that are having smaller events and that find themselves a bit left off center. In response to this we have been kicking around a couple of ideas that fit both of our preferences.

The first idea we used to do a while ago and are bringing back is Baumtastic Bitty Sessions. These are half hour sessions that run concurrently with 15 minute breaks between sessions. They are at a reduced rate but no less the quality we usually insist upon. Be on the lookout for more information, coming soon.

The second idea is new for us. You've heard of Pop-Up Stores, well, get ready for Pop-Up Weddings! I know, crazy, but fantastic or rather Baumtastic! Just imagine, you, your significant other and a few of your close friends gather for the elopement of a lifetime at a fabulous location. No fuss, no muss, just love sweet love and a few photos, wink wink.

We have an officiant and the gear so it's just a matter of getting the go ahead from our attorney, Chris, that we keep on retainer. Lookout for the info on this amazing opportunity to keep your wedding not only intimate but inexpensive too.

All for now, hope to hear from you soon.

Fabulous at Fifty

Last weekend Brooke and I were asked to photograph a Surprise Fiftieth Wedding Anniversary / Vowel Renewal. The party was thrown by the daughter of the bride and groom. We arrived, set up (Outside), then watched as the Florida afternoon dark storm clouds started coming our way! Ten raindrops later, moving all the equipment inside then back outside, set up again, the guests of honor arrived and the party started.

We had a blast. Everyone was so happy, the food was delicious, the ceremony was hilarious with the bride coming out the door and then thinking twice, so funny. The attire was great, shorts and polos. The groom was gussied up a bit with a tuxedo jacket thrown over his polo. So fancy.

I hope that Chris and I are treated to such an event at our 50th anniversary. You hear that kids?! Oh, and get the recipe for the cake, we'll need that for sure.

The cake was made by the bride's sister, and it was amazing!!!

Don't you love this picture? Tippie-toes for a Kiss!

In Love!

Just received the first piece of equipment! Canon 85mm lens. Could not be happier. Take a look at the beautiful fall-off in focus with this lens. Worth every penny.

This is what is considered a prime lens. It is used primarily for portraiture. I cannot wait to get my hands on a bride and see what can be done with this lens.

Just imagine with proper lighting and a better backdrop than my front porch what magic could happen.

Shiny and New

Hello,

Brooke and I have decided it is time that we revamp a bit. We went through equipment inventory and realized we needed a bit more goodies to be able to create the imagery we have in our mind's eye. Boy, did we go shopping! Or rather investing, in B. Baum's future success.

New lenses, new cameras, new lighting, new new new!!!!

It will be like an early birthday for B. Baum Photo.

Brooke, order the cake!

We also are in the process of building a greater web presence other than the blog and fb pages we have currently. The genius, Brooke B., is doing that for the company. Her talent cup runneth over.

All for now,

Rickee

And the Winner is?!

This past weekend B Baum Photography was asked to join Nathalie Galde of Natty G Photography to cover an event. I have to take a moment to gush here. Nathalie was once a student of mine while I was teaching a class at UM. She had "passion and a plucky spirit." It was a pleasure to work with her. We at B Baum hope to continue the partnership.

The event, the Annual Gala for the Association of Cuban Engineers and the College of Civil Engineers of Cuba, was held at the airport Hilton. It is their largest event with the highest attendance, drawing members from all over the globe. These two organizations provide scholarships to deserving university engineering students as well as recognizing engineering professionals in the area.

You may not think that engineers know how to party, well, I am married to one and I can tell you, that is not the case! Nathalie will agree with me as she too is the proud spouse of an engineer. There was not one person in the room not tapping their toes.

Coming Together

Recently Brooke and I photographed a wedding for a couple that was such a treat. The couple, previously featured in our last post, were so very gracious, well everyone was for that matter. The wedding was at the Hyatt in the Gables. It is such a beautiful venue. If I remember correctly, Chris and I even considered it as a venue for our wedding many moons ago.

FYI: the wait staff, the coordinator, Maria Lopez, and the bartenders are Great! I won't post the story that one of the waiters told me and Brooke near the end of the evening because it is not fit for print here, but just know that it involves a band of Mariachis and some heated emotions. Oh yes, there is also one about Gypsies too, that one would curl your toes!  Cannot wait to work there again.

On a Sunny Afternoon

This past weekend we were fortunate enough to work with a couple that are so very lovely.

Having been to Matheson Hammock several times last week and the week before for some down-time with the family and the weather and the light, oh the light, being so fantastic, I suggested to the clients that we use that as our location for their Engagement Session.

It was a great session. The Bride-to-Be is Gorgeous! The Groom is so darn cute. And they both are great sports.

We scheduled a portrait session for after the wedding in more casual attire. I cannot wait to see what those are going to look like...
